Abrasive Wheel Training
Training to meet the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulation
1998. The above regulations require that persons who mount abrasive wheels are trained to perform the task. The duties and responsibilities of employers and employees are further
extended by The Provision and Use of Work Equipment 1998.

Course Objectives
The course aims to provide training to meet the above requirements and on completion of the training course members will be able to identify legal duties and responsibilities as required by:
– The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
– The Provisions and Use of Equipment Regulations 1998
– The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992
– Mount abrasive wheels of various types in accordance with statutory legislation

Introduction to the legal requirements of the regulations:
– Training of persons to fit and mount abrasive wheels
– Duties of employers
– Duties of employees
– Exemptions – certificates as applicable
Selection of wheels/disks:
– Markings-types and speed
– Types suitable for purpose
– Checking- damage and defects
– Handling and storage
Checking Equipment:
– Condition
– Marking spindle speeds
– Controls
– Guards
Mounting of wheels/disks/depressed centre wheels:
– Flanges, washers, brushes
– Locking nuts
– Assembly of components
Practical Mounting:
– Selection of wheels
– Mounting Wheels on portable hand held machines
