An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified, motivated and enthusiastic Technician to support the research activities within the School’s iSMART Group (Innovations in Surfaces, Materials and Related Technologies) with an input into other advanced materials research areas.
The post is permanent and full-time.
Core responsibilities:
Duties will include assisting researchers to optimise the use and care of core services in iSMART including electrospinning, 3D printing, robotic positioning systems, flexo and offset printing, spray coating, vacuum, laser, air handling and gas supply systems and maintenance of a cleanroom environment and other computer controlled equipment. An understanding of electrospinning and electrospray systems, 3D printing, robotic control systems, thin film vacuum deposition, laser processing, , surface chemistry, spectroscopy, microscopy, electronics and other surface characterisation techniques would be advantageous. There will be direct input into assisting researchers deliver funded research programmes examples of which include development of electrospun nanofibres for tissue engineering, formulation of printing inks for flexible electronics and laser fabrication of nanoparticles.
An appreciation of, and co-ordination of use of, high end equipment is essential along with an appreciation for maintenance and servicing schedules as you will be the point of contact for both end users and engineers. Participation in general cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment and helping users with equipment bookings and stock control is envisaged.
