Are you looking to kick-start your career? Do you enjoy making things, mending things, or tinkering? Then our apprenticeship in Estates Operations could be for you!
Imperial has a vast estate, spread across several sites in London and the South East. We need skilled Maintenance Technicians to keep these buildings and facilities working, providing a safe and functional environment for our students, staff, and visitors. As our apprentice, you will be supported to develop the skills and knowledge to provide a range of preventative and reactive maintenance to building systems. Over the four-year apprenticeship, you will work towards becoming a fully qualified Maintenance Technician – a profession that is always in demand!
Duties and responsibilities
Apprentices will be trained by experienced colleagues and our specialist contractors to undertake maintenance and repairs to electrical and mechanical plant and equipment and associated building systems, including cold and hot water systems, heating systems, ventilation, electrical systems, and much more. You will also have work placements and gain hands-on experience with other Estates Operations teams, including Project Delivery, Engineering Workshop, Energy & Environment, and Engineering. You will combine your workplace training with a weekly day-release programme of practical and classroom-based sessions, fully aligned to the level 3 Building Services Engineering Service and Maintenance Engineer apprenticeship standard, and delivered in Dagenham, Essex. As well as earning a competitive salary, you will build a wide range of technical skills and gain a formal qualification that will help you in your future career.
Applicants will need (or expect to gain) grade 9–4 (A*-C) at GCSE in Maths and English. No prior work experience is required. We are looking for people who are passionate about making or mending; to be considered for interview, applicants must tell us in their application about things they have made or repaired, which could include projects at home, work, or school.
Type of contract: full time, fixed term for four years
Please note that applicants who do not provide a written supporting statement will not be considered for interview.
Closing date – 30 June 2021
First-stage interviews for this post are expected to take place during the week beginning 19 July 2021
