“The Studios and Galleries technical team from Manchester School of Art reflect with humour and insight on the challenges posed by the stretching and installation of ‘Fabric of the City’ – a monumental textile artwork by British artist Alice Kettle installed in the new Grosvenor East Building.
The work’s unusual scale, pattern matching and the broad array of surface techniques used – from print to digital stitch – posed novel technical complexities for the technicians. Making use of their expertise in art handling, exhibition install, AV, mount making, canvas stretching and picture framing, the team devised bespoke methods that were essential to realising the artwork.”
For more interesting insights and beautiful artwork, you can follow the team on Instagram, which is ran by Owen Ramsay and Robin Broadley.”
